HomeAway.com review by Álvaro Galván, film director: "This beautiful house is a jewel in New York. It has all the amenities, lots of space and natural light. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and you can find everything you need really close. And its lovely owner will make sure you enjoy your stay. A really wonderful place!" +++++
THE KITCHEN: Wonderfully sunny, all white, and beautifully renovated, the 14' square, eat-in kitchen has a brand new stainless steel gas range, microwave, full-sized refrigerator, coffee maker, all new cookware set, toaster, ceiling fan, breakfast nook / table for two, and backyard view.
FlipKey.com review by Gabriel G. (Cliffside Park, NJ): "The house is really cozy and very comfortable. The bedrooms are not huge, but quiet and comfortable, with a beautiful, clean kitchen and comfortable living room. The location was great. Very private, very safe neighborhood. Would highly recommend." +++++
LIVING ROOM: Extra cozy living room features double french doors, mahogany moldings, hard wood floors, large picture window, sofa for 3, Ikea rocker, and tube TV with basic cable.
HomeAway.com Review by Colin Pocock (West Sussex, England):
"Nice Accommodation, nice neighbourhood... the subway and local shopping amenities were only a five minute walk away." +++++
BATHROOMS: The upstairs bath has an old fashioned claw-foot tub with hand shower, sink and tank toilet. The new ground floor bath (added in 2010) has an open style shower with antique reproduction exposed-plumbing shower body, 8" rain head, dual-flush water saving tank toilet, and wall-hung sink. Though the house in general is not outfitted for handicap access, the open style shower can accommodate a person with mild disability. A shower chair is available upon request. Metro, the hand-painted mural cat, greets you with a vase of poinsettas as you come in the door.
A CLEAN, GREEN HOUSE: In both the kitchen and bathroom renovations, our contractors used only green, environmentally-friendly, clean-air products, including no-VOC primers, paints, grouts and glues, and recycled denim insulation instead of fiberglass or sprayed-in foam. We are very sensitive to harsh cleaners and chemicals and use nothing aerosol, toxic or potentially allergic in the house. The entire house is cleaned with old-fashioned castile soap. We even make our own spray cleaner out of Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap.
HomeAway.com Review by Sherryl Gordon (Bethany, OK): "This was an ideal location for a visit to NYC, near subway connections to Manhattan and shopping, while being a quiet haven to come home to at night, and the owner was most hospitable and helpful. I highly recommend this vacation home." +++++
DINING ROOM: Cozy dining room with large table, colonial style china hutch, and colorful dishware. For its own good, we very much wanted to sell our antique dining room set before opening the house to rentals, but it wouldn't go. So the table and chairs are here, protected as best they can be. Think of them as you do your feisty but fragile old Grandma. Be gentle
A Note Left in Our Guest Book by Merel Visse (Netherlands):
"This house has a soul... the wood, the antiques, the bath... made me think of a European home. And the art in the house is very well done." +++++
BEDROOMS: The house has 3 quiet bedrooms.
1)- The blue room is an adult
bedroom with a Sealy Posturpedic® double bed that faces the front. 2)- The gold room has two very comfortable twin-sized Bob-O-Pedic® memory foam beds, and faces the back. 3)- The white room is a
small room with one twin-sized, organic fibers mattress good for a child or single that
doubles as an office. We have an airbed that can be placed anywhere if someone prefers not to share a room.
A Note Left in Our Guest Book by Annegret & Juergen Nuessler (Germany): "New York was great, your house was great, and we enjoyed everything. We will recommend your lovely house to our friends! Thank you for everything!"+++++
PORCH: The first room you see when you come in, the 18' x 7' sun room with 9 windows spans the entire front of the house and contains Dottie's 1950 I Love Lucy style vintage oven, retired. Doubling as mudroom and home to many a slushy winter boot, it has its blemishes, but is good for a morning cup o'tea in Spring. The porch is not heated, so is suitable only for warm weather use. (Photos to come.)
THE BACK YARD: a 25' x 35' yard that blooms with tulips in the spring, roses in the summer and various urban wildlife year round. Please let us know in advance if you'd like to use the yard. (^Cindy) (^Peach & Garnet^)
A Note Left in our Guest Book by Clara Rugman (England): "We have spent the last few days recommending your house to our friends who are planning to visit NY."+++++
TELEPHONE: There is a land line phone on the premises. A carrier access code is required for long distance calls. Guests are encouraged to bring their own mobile phones.
A Note Left in our Guest Book by Annika Denkert (Nebraska): "Thank you for a great, cozy place to stay!" +++++
INTERNET: Available through Time Warner Cable/Road Runner.
FlipKey.com Review by Rozanne Smith (Gainseville, FL):
"Our son and his wife and my husband and I wanted a quiet home base to
explore NYC... DottieJane's ended up a perfect choice. The neighborhood
was quiet, but had access to shopping and to public transportation. We
have already recommended it to our friends." +++++

A question we are frequently asked is ** ABOUT BED BUGS **
ANSWER: WE DO NOT HAVE AND HAVE NEVER HAD BED BUGS. These repulsive critters have been a concern in large cities
recently and we are on HYPER-alert. Because we live here too, we want
them even less than you do and go all the way to guard against pests of every
kind. We wash all bedclothes in the hottest water and dry on the highest
heat after every guest. The owner personally inspects and
vacuums the mattresses, box springs, bed frames, drawers and all upholstered
furniture after every guest. Prevention of bed bugs is the
reason for many of our rules, for instance, not bringing in furniture. Furniture
and boxes of belongings that have been on moving or delivery trucks, and/or in
previous apartments could carry pests.
In addition to the precautions we take, we strongly advise and request that guests coming to our house from other hotels and rental homes closely inspect their suitcases, and enclose all belongings in plastic bags when packing. It is also advisable to launder your clothes and fabrics between stops. And be aware that any unexplained bruises or marks on your skin upon waking are cause for concern.
